Slips, Trips and Falls
In between the range of Inuuried to Death, there are all of the other injuries such as broken bones, concussions, cuts, abrasions and minor but time losing injuries
Slips and falls can be minimised and prevented by: -
- Being careful of where you are walking or stepping, ‘LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING!.
- Practice good housekeeping, dispose of scraps of wood, metal and other materials etc., properly (i.e. into bins, skips etc.).
- Keep your working areas as tidy as possible, stack materials in a proper manner.
- Correct placement or tower scaffolds steps and ladders, always try and maintain a safe access and egress to the place of work, and use the correct signage to warn others and the public.
- Keep stairways and walkways clear of obstructions and ensure that opening in floors are appropriately closed and use the correct barriers.
- When working at heights ensure that the necessary guard rails and toe boards are in place or if these safeguards are impracticable safety harnesses should be used.
Slips and falls occur in just a few seconds but there after effects are sometimes measured in months and can leave a permanent disability.
